Bayley Makes Her Choice
Bayley showed up to RAW this past Monday with her Damage CTRL crew to confront Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and seemingly challenge The Eradicator for the title at WrestleMania XL. This is what happened instead:
Bayley would have to wait until last night’s SmackDown to make her decision. While the other members of Damage CTRL had other plans for Bayley, The Role Model would surprise everyone:
Bayley taking on Io Sky will bring the Damage CTRL story to a climax. It’s also a high profile match that I’m looking forward to. Bayley has been long deserving of a high profile match and this will be her 1st singles WrestleMania match. What better way to have her 1st singles match than to face her former Damage CTRL stable mate.
WWE Calls A Massive Audible
Cody Rhodes winning the Men’s Royal Rumble seemingly put him in line to face the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship… and then tragedy happened. CM Punk’s injury at The Royal Rumble proved to be serious as he suffered a torn triceps. That injury knocked CM Punk out of the WrestleMania picture and left Seth Rollins without a dance partner at the Show of Shows. The question became what would happen with the two biggest showcase matches at WrestleMania and on Friday it appeared we got an answer:
The Las Vegas press conference this coming Thursday will be the place for WWE to announce that Roman Reigns will take on The Rock at WrestleMania XL in the main event. It’s a dream match that has been 3 years in the making and a certified box office match. But is everyone excited about it?
The IWC Is Never Happy
WWE’s decision to insert The Rock into the WrestleMania stage has sent the IWC into a frenzy and they are voicing their displeasure big time. As of this writing the video segment between Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes & The Rock is the most disliked WWE video in YouTube history. The fans are livid because they seem to believe The Rock ramrodded his way into the main event match at Cody’s expense. That feeling is being fueled by reports stating it was The Rock’s intentions from the very beginning.
Whether that’s true or not is not the real point here. The real point is CM Punk’s injury was the monkey wrench that threw everything out of whack. Punk missing Mania, coupled with Brock Lesnar being pulled due to the Vince McMahon scandal, left World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins without a dance partner and put his main event match status in serious jeopardy. Like it or not, Seth Rollins is very deserving of main eventing Night One of the Showcase of the Immortals but the Cody Rhodes stans don’t seem to care about that because their guy was “cast aside” for the money match.
Yes, from a storyline perspective the WWE spent the better part of two years focusing on Cody Rhodes’ journey to winning the championship that eluded his late father Dusty Rhodes so I can understand why fans of Cody would be upset but here’s the thing about WWE – the card is always subject to change and that’s what happened here. Leaving Seth Rollins out of a high profile match is a disservice to Seth who’s worked just as hard as Cody. But because Cody is the internet darling suddenly WWE is trash and it’s the worst decision ever because their guy is seemingly the odd man out.
Fans also need to understand WrestleMania is not about the IWC. It never has been. It’s always been and will continue to be about the spectacle. It’s about how to get the most eyes on the product. It’s The Super Bowl of professional wrestling. The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is the money match that will be talked about. Yes, this is not ideal, it sucks for Cody and the match between Rock & Roman could’ve happened at anytime but you know what – it’s happening now so deal with it. Don’t like it? Don’t watch. It’s amazing this was a match the IWC clamored for… until they didn’t. The Rock was everyone’s favorite… until he’s not and now he’s the worst human being on the planet. This is what the IWC is – they’re fickle. They think only of their faves and scream the loudest when things don’t go their way. It’s the same for AEW or any other wrestling promotion. The IWC is never happy and they can truly be the worst sometimes. This is one of those times.
The Vince McMahon Scandal Is Getting Worse
The Vince McMahon scandal that rocked the wrestling industry is taking another turn for the disgraced, ex-WWE CEO as now the allegations of sex trafficking are under federal investigation against the 78-year old former Chairman of TKO Group Holdings.
The McMahon scandal will continue to cast a dark cloud over the wrestling promotion. It is going to be imperative for the company to completely distance themselves from Vince McMahon and forge a path that protects its female employees. A great first start would be for Vince be removed from WWE/TKO – forever.
