What’s Next For Becky Lynch?
Becky Lynch has allowed her WWE contract to expire today and is now officially a free agent. She did the honors over this past week by dropping the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan at King & Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia. She lost her rematch two nights later on RAW this past Monday solidifying Liv Morgan as champion.
She posted a picture on Twitter after her match Monday with a simple caption:
With Becky being a free agent she is now free to go anywhere and most fans would love to see her in AEW. Tony Khan would be more than willing to back up the Brinks truck for Becky but I don’t believe this is a money issue with her. I believe she may want to do what Mercedes Moné did – wrestle overseas and other dream matches before eventually returning to WWE. She also has the option to just go on a sabbatical and rest especially with her husband Seth Rollins at home nursing various injuries. At the end of the day I believe all roads for Becky will lead her back to WWE.
The Forbidden Door We Didn’t Know We Needed
NXT GM Ava pulled a fast one on NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez by announcing who her next opponent will be at NXT Battleground:
This will be the 2nd time TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace will step foot in a WWE ring with the 1st appearance being this year’s Royal Rumble. It will mark the 3rd time a Knockouts champion has wrestled in a WWE event(the third time being when Mickie James appeared at the 2022 Royal Rumble).
The budding partnership between WWE & TNA doesn’t appear to be a couple of one offs as multiple outlets have reported WWE is very interested in kicking open the forbidden door. If true the opportunities would be endless. Kudos to Triple H for making this happen with Jordynne Grace.
Is Swerve Strickland The Guy at AEW?
Swerve Strickland successfully defended his AEW World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing by outlasting Christian Cage but something seems off. For one – that match wasn’t last and typically the promotion’s top title should be closing out a show. While AEW pulled the trigger with putting the title on Swerve they haven’t really been intentional in showcasing him as THE GUY in AEW. He hasn’t been booked particularly strong and it seems as though Will Ospreay and the returning MJF will command most of the spotlight outside the Young Bucks storyline. Swerve may be victim to the age old story of people being interested in the chase for the title but then falling off once the title is won. If AEW is really behind Swerve Strickland then they should book him that way. I just get the feeling Swerve is the transitional champion just waiting to drop the belt to Ospreay.
Other Musings
Mercedes Moné captured the TBS title at Double or Nothing by beating Willow in what was the best women’s match I saw this past week. What was shocking was Kris Statlander turning on Willow after the match. This past Wednesday fans found out who attacked Mercedes during her interview a few weeks back and surprise, surprise – it was Skye Blue. This will be an awesome opportunity for Skye to have a program with one of the world’s best women’s wrestlers.
Triple H announced that World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest will defend his title against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle on June 15th. Will this be Drew’s last chance to once again grab gold?
NXT’s show ended on Tuesday with NXT Champion Trick Williams being confronted by Lash Legend and then this happened:
With Becky Lynch on hiatus and Rhea Ripley still on the shelf the pressure will be on for newly minted Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan to hold the fort down. It’s going to be up to Liv to be able to carry the RAW women’s division, elevate the other women and prove she is the main event caliber star her fans believe she is. I’m just not sure she can do that.
