The Bloodline Saga Continues
If you thought with Roman Reigns’ loss at WrestleMania 40 would end the Bloodline saga then you’re sorely mistaken. Triple H warned that Roman Reigns’ story was far from finished and the world got its first glimpse into just how deep the rabbit hole is on Friday night:
Tama Tonga debuting and aligning himself with Solo Sikoa adds another layer to this already legendary storyline. With Reigns seemingly out of the picture it appears Solo Sikoa is taking his shot at the Head of the Table. Keep in mind that Roman Reigns decreed that Solo was the heir apparent should anything happen to him:
With Solo going for the throne and the rumored signing of Jacob Fatu it appears there is going to be full on civil war between a heel faction of the Bloodline led by Solo Sikoa(and more than likely The Rock) going up against a face faction of the OG Bloodline with Reigns and a reunited Usos. Look for this compelling story to play out over the next few months and possibly heading into WrestleMania 41.
Just when you think you got out… The Bloodline keeps pulling you back in. It’s cinema.
AEW Has A Real Tony Khan Problem
This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite Tony Khan decided to air the backstage footage of the CM Punk/Jack Perry Incident as part of an angle between The Young Bucks and FTR for their upcoming match at AEW Dynasty.
The video footage segment by the Bucks was a direct response to what CM Punk said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour podcast where CM Punk gave his thoughts on the Brawl In encounter:
So because CM Punk was on a non-WWE affiliated show and aired his thoughts on Tony Khan & the Brawl In incident Tony Khan felt it was necessary to show the footage in an attempt to make CM Punk look bad and take yet another shot at Punk and WWE. It’s the latest incident where Tony Khan has proven he can’t be the adult in the room. Khan got so in his feelings about CM Punk’s comments that he became a high schooler and wanted to clap back.
The whole incident pretty much backfired as the consensus amongst fans and critics was the segment was a dumpster fire and the last segment of the show which featured the Bucks beating down FTR drew loud CM Punk chants from the crowd. The backlash was so bad that AEW no longer has the footage shown in the Bucks segment on their AEW YouTube page.
If this was done to pop a rating then it was a temporary success as nearly 900K were watching the All In footage segment but by the end of the night viewership tanked to around 725K. The overall rating for AEW Dynamite was 819K which was the highest it’s been in weeks but at what cost?
The bigger issue with Tony Khan not being the adult in the room and the boss means he had an opportunity to make money with this CM Punk/Elite situation going all the way back to the All Out incident but at every turn Khan chose the path of least resistance. He chose to create a whole new show just to keep CM Punk in AEW and keep Punk away from The Elite. He chose not to get Punk & The Elite in the room to figure this out and make money off of it even though Kenny Omega recently admitted to being a terrible EVP and having no issues with CM Punk. At every turn Tony Khan made the choice to be a fan/friend instead of a boss and that is why AEW is in the state it is in.

- Jon Moxley competed in the main event of NJPW’s Windy City Riot main event and won the IWGP World Heavyweight title against Naito. In winning New Japan Pro Wrestling’s top prize, Moxley became the 1st person win the top title in NJPW, AEW and WWE. Just once… I’d like to see Mox compete in a match where his blood isn’t drawn. LOL. Shoutout to my big bro Jonathan Hood at Good Karma Wrestling for the following:
- Also at NJPW’s Windy City Riot was Jack Perry as he had a match with Shota Umino. Perry came out with a Chicago flag and on the back of his jacket was the following:
- I’m cool with Perry taking a shot at CM Punk and needling the crowd in Chicago but it has been 8 months since the backstage incident at All In and he is still talking about the real glass and “cry me a river”. Where is the money to be made in this? The guy that Tony Khan, The Young Bucks and Perry are throwing shade at is in another company… and not really thinking about any of them. These individuals won’t come face to face so what’s the point of the shots? It’s showing the fans how petty Jack Perry, Khan & the Bucks are where they would put their own egos over making money. And while CM Punk is no saint in all of this at least he was willing to try and work it out.
- Mercedes Moné had an awkward segment on Wednesday’s Dynamite show where she cut a promo setting herself up as the next challenger for the TBS title and well… yeah:
- The camera work was awful with the quick zoom in and zoom outs and fans were quick to make light of Moné’s acting after the beatdown in the dark. That segment among others speaks to fans’ desire for Tony Khan to get plenty of help when it comes to storytelling. I am still on the Mercedes Moné bandwagon. I’m fine with her not wrestling until Double or Nothing. She should be kept as a special attraction but the writing and storytelling has to improve if AEW is going to keep her out of the ring until May.
