Bears Win Ugly

The Chicago Bears found the ugliest way possible to beat the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night – by not scoring a TD and deciding the best way to win was to play lateral football. To try and counter the Vikings different blitz packages Bears OC Luke Getsy thought it would be a good idea to use the screen pass game plan to try and catch the Vikes napping. It didn’t work and the offense looked like pure, grade A horse manure.

Justin Fields did whatever he could with such a crappy offensive scheme and finished 27 for 37 for 217 yards. He also added 12 rushes for 59 yards. Trailing 10-9 after back to back fumbles by Fields, Justin led the team on a 66 yard game winning drive as Cairo Santos kicked his 4th FG with :10 left in the game. The key play was a 39-yard dime to DJ Moore(11 catches, 114 yards) to set up the game winning FG.

On defense the Bears played outstanding football. The Bears forced 4 turnovers via interceptions and held the Vikings to 242 yards. Montez Sweat was a beast with 3 tackles & 1.5 sacks. TJ Edwards had 6 tackles(1 for loss) and an INT. He was all over the field. Kyler Gordon, Jaquan Brisker and Jaylon Johnson also had an INT. Johnson would’ve had two but dropped a sure fire pick-6. As a team, the Bears had 9 QB hits, 2 sacks and 8 pass deflections.

Grading The Bears

Offense: Putrid. Absolutely putrid. Save for the 1st and last drive of the game the offense set football back 50 years. Grade: D-

Defense: 4 turnovers. 2 Sacks and holding a team to 10 points will get you a win on most nights. Most nights was last night. Grade: A

Special Teams: Cairo Santos was the offense for the Bears as he made 4 FGs. He also missed a FG but in the end a win is a win. Grade: B

Coaching: Matt Eberflus called a pretty good game. Luke Getsy? No so much. Grade: Defense – A; Offense – F

Up Next: The bye week is here so the Bears’ next game is Dec. 10 and a rematch with the Lions at Soldier Field.

The Bulls Are Basura

The Chicago Bulls season is over. I’m going to need Arturas Karnisovas to blow this thing up already. Fans are tired of watching this team play with a lack of effort, competency and heart.

The Bulls have lost 8 of their last 9 games including 5 straight and now their record stands at 5-14. In this current 5-game losing streak the Bulls have lost in a variety of ways. They were dog walked by MIA and OKC. They allowed TOR to get out to 14-pt 1st quarter lead and couldn’t recover. They actually had a 21-point lead against BKN in the 1st quarter… and then proceeded to get outscored by 30 for the rest of the game. Oh by the way, BKN made an NBA season-high 25 3-pointers. And then there was tonight as the Celtics made 21 3-pointers en route to a 27-point blowout win over the Bulls. At one point, the Bulls trailed by 32 against Boston.

Here are the Bulls’ rankings:

  • 28th in scoring
  • 27th in FG percentage
  • 20th in 3-pt shooting percentage
  • 27th in rebounding
  • 30th in assists
  • 24th in opponents 3-pt shooting percentage
  • 28th in opponents rebounding
  • 23rd in point differential
  • 26th in FG differential
  • 26th in 3-pt shooting differential
  • 29th in rebounding differential

This team has given up. They keep saying the right things but those things don’t translate over to the court. When your three established stars aren’t consistently putting forth the effort to play hard for 48 minutes then you know the team is shot. LaVine, DeMar and Nikola Vucevic continue to rely on the younger bench players to infuse life into the team. That’s their job – and they are failing at their jobs. Zack LaVine is just counting down the days until he is traded. Vucevic looks like he doesn’t want to be there. DeMar looks like he’s over it all. All three have lower shooting percentages than their career averages. Billy Donovan refuses to sit players and hold them accountable for not putting forth effort. This entire organization is in shambles.

Bulls VP of Operations Arturas Karnisovas decided to briefly speak with the media before tonight’s game with the Celtics. Here is a quote from AK courtesy of NBC Chicago’s KC Johnson:

AK may not be running away from this putrid team but he also isn’t taking steps to impose his will and truly begin to fix the mess he made. He’s not going to fire himself. Marc Eversley isn’t getting fired. Billy Donovan’s job is safe due to his secret extension that would’ve remained a secret if not for the media. So what is AK going to do? Bulls fans are tired of the horse manure effort this team puts on the floor on a nightly basis. AK needs to give the fanbase more than empty words. The fans need action. Will AK step up and actually do it? I doubt it…
