I Miss Patrice O’Neal

Patrice O’Neal was really one of one when it came to comedians. His wit and ability to make you think about real world issues was second to none. His comedy special Elephant In The Room remains one of the greatest comedy specials in this century(that’s not hyperbole). I listen to his posthumous comedy album, Mr. P at least once a month. It’s that good. Here’s one of my favorite clips from that album:

Superlatives get thrown around too much. For Patrice O’Neal whatever superlative you want to give him is deserved. It’s been nearly twelve years since Patrice left us. I still miss him…

When Perception Feels Like Reality

The Justin Fields/Tyson Bagent QB ‘controversy could be rooted in something more than just QB play. Image courtesy of Chicago Sun-Times.

There is an interesting piece in today’s Chicago Sun-Times by Scoop Jackson about the Chicago Bears and the culture clash that exists with fans of this team. I don’t know that I agree with everything that Scoop is saying but he does make some interesting points such as the following:

That this new level of excitement has more to do with the removal of Fields than it does Bagent’s installation. And with that perception comes a card called race that some (many) people seem to have a problem with when it gets played. Here, in this, is what gets lost: The History. The history of the Bears when it comes to quarterbacks of color.

While it may not have anything to do with the losses that have made up Fields’ tenure as the first Black QB they’ve truly invested in, in the minds and thoughts of those who look beyond his starting record and strictly blaming that record on him, this moment feels like his injury is the mask being used as an excuse to disguise how some (many) fans and media members really feel.

I do feel that some people who are Bears fans are rooting for Justin Fields to fail. It’s one thing to critique his play but its another thing to go to old tropes of calling him “a running back” or not being smart enough to read defenses. You can read the full article at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Is The Cheesecake Factory Really That Bad?

I’m sure you all have seen the viral video of the woman who tried to embarrass her date because he decided to take her to the Cheesecake Factory. Here is the full video:

This video reminded me of the time Marc Lamont Hill & Angela Rye were on CNN with Don Lemon back in 2018 when Marc dissed the Cheesecake Factory:

Am I missing something? Is The Cheesecake Factory trash? I enjoy The Cheesecake Factory. I’ll go a step further – The Cheesecake Factory is FIRE… and it’s not cheap, folks. It’s not a $$$$ restaurant but let’s not act like it’s White Castle either(no disrespect to those that love White Castle). This woman wants to be treated like ‘royalty’ but has a rotten attitude toward her date who seems like a gentleman. Well… leave it to Stephen A. Smith to offer his comments on the subject:

Final Thoughts

  • What’s happening in the Middle East is disturbing but I feel like more than one thing can be true. You can support the Palestinian people’s desire to be free of occupation while at the same time condemning Hamas as a terrorist organization. You can also speak out against the government of Israel’s actions in bombing and killing innocent people all in the name of trying to rid the region of terrorism. You can also speak out against western governments for unilaterally supporting the Israeli government and their actions. All of the above can be true.
  • Hey Jada & Will… for all of us – just stop. We don’t want to hear about it. Tupac. August Alsina. Entanglements. Chris Rock. All of it. Just stop. We can’t take it anymore.
  • Jonathan Majors is absolutely KILLING IT in Loki Season 2. Every iteration of Kang the Conqueror and his variants has been GOLD.
  • Speaking of Marvel, Phase 4 & 5 has been disjointed but I got a feeling that Loki Season 2 is going to bring it all together. Season 2 could end up being the best Marvel TV series ever. Yes, even better than WandaVision.
