They Keep Pulling Me Back In
Last week the White Sox were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks and fell 2 games under .500 & 6 games back of the AL Central leading Guardians. I wrote off the Sox for good and declared them dead only for them to win 3 of their next 4 games and climb to within 3 games of Cleveland. Even better is the fact they have the chance to sweep the Twins this weekend and get into a tie for 2nd place. After they beat the Twins in come from behind fashion last night 4-3, I had this to say:
The White Sox are going to f’ing tease me all the way to the end of the season, aren’t they? #ChangeTheGame cc: @Jason1Goff #TheFullGo

I just wish the White Sox would make up their mind and either play for real or just give up. Don’t keep stringing me along just to infuriate me as they have done for so, so many years.
The Future Is Now
The Chicago Bears are entering the 2022 as a young team looking to figure themselves out. After the Bears cut their roster to 53 players on Tuesday they went shopping on the waiver wire and came away with 6 players:
The Bears claimed 6 players off of waivers:
OL Alex Leatherwood
DT Armani Watts
DB Josh Blackwell
DE Kingsley Johnathan
LB Sterling Weatherford
TE Trevin WescoNo team added more players via waivers.
shoutout to Armon* Watts, not Armani.
my phone autocorrected and apparently has interest in high-end fashion.

OL Alex Leatherwood could be a steal for the Bears and I can see him adding some much needed depth to an offensive line that will struggle to protect the future franchise QB Justin Fields
If that weren’t enough, the Bears scheduled a press conference for September 8 to unveil plans for the Arlington Heights property they purchased in 2021. Building a new stadium will give the Bears ownership rights over the stadium – something they don’t have with Soldier Field being owned by the Chicago Park District. A new stadium will give the Bears a chance to host an upcoming Super Bowl and other major sporting events like The Final Four, B1G Championship and WrestleMania.
Finally, Bears president Ted Phillips is set to retire after 40 years with the organization. Phillips will stay on until the conclusion of the 2022 season. He will more than likely oversee the final steps into securing the new stadium in Arlington Heights.
After all of these years of the Bears committing to staying the course, it appears a new day is coming. It appears the future is now.
The Bulls’ Bad Week
If you’re a Chicago Bulls fan then this week has not been the best week for you. The week took a bad turn on Thursday when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped another Woj-bomb by announcing All-Star Donovan Mitchell would be traded from Utah to the Cleveland Cavaliers. That trade will have Mitchell joining a Cavs team that won just 2 fewer games than the Bulls last year. That team featured a young, up & coming core of Darius Garland, Caris LeVert and Evan Mobley. Adding Spida Mitchell to the mix means Cleveland has jumped the line and now the Bulls will have another team that they will to slug it out with to remain in that top 6. It’s already established the Bucks, Celtics, Heat, 76ers and Raptors will be better but now that Mitchell is with the Cavs and Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving will be staying with the Nets the East will be just that much harder to climb. Let’s not forget the Hawks picked up Dejounte Murray to join Trae Young. The Bulls will have to be supremely healthy and have all cylinders firing just to finish between 5th or 6th again.
Speaking of health, that’s already gotten off to a less than promising start. The Bulls announced Bulls starting PG Lonzo Ball is still dealing with his left knee and will miss all of training camp and the preseason. The report also reports the star point guard is doubtful to start the regular season. Credit to Arturas Karnisovas for getting point guard Goran Drajic during free agency as an insurance policy but this is not the news Bulls fans wanted to hear. The Bulls suffered mightily on defense once Ball went down and if he can’t be healthy for this season then the Bulls will have the same deficiencies they did last season. It’s going to be a tough, tough road for the Bulls.
The Queen Leaves The Court
Last night marked the final time we saw Serena Williams play competitive tennis as she lost in the 3rd Round of the U.S. Open in a thrilling 3-set match, 5-7, 7-6(4), 1-6 to Ajla Tomljanović. Ever the competitor, Serena left it all on the court and it took nearly 20 minutes for Tomljanović to record the match winning point to close out the game.
After the game, an emotional Serena Williams thanked the fans and her family for supporting her through this incredible journey:
Serena exits the game with 39 major championships (an Open-era record 23 in singles, 14 in doubles & 2 in mixed doubles) – more than any player ever. She won 73 tournaments which is good for 5th all-time. She’s won 367 majors matches – more than anyone in the history of women’s tennis. She was the #1 player in the world for an astonishing 319 weeks and won 4 Olympic Gold medals.
As she leaves the game she loves, the sports world & celebrities gave Serena the flowers she more than deserves. While much has been made of her success, not much has been made of what she’s had to endure to achieve this level of greatness. A young, black girl from Compton, CA. redefined a game that is traditionally a country club sport. She’s endured racist & sexist comments and threats and through it all she did it her way. She is the inspiration for young people of color everywhere and for that she’s a legend.
Thank you, Serena. You’re the standard, the blueprint and simply the GOAT – Greatest of All Time.
Serena 2.0 starts now. What a journey it was ❤️
