Thank You Tiger
Tiger Woods walked into this year’s British Open with the hopes of possibly contending throughout the weekend. The 15-time major champion is still dealing with the after effects of a gruesome car accident back in February 2021. He was able to miraculously come back to the game of golf when he played in this year’s Masters and gutted his way through the weekend while shooting a +13 for the tournament.
It was a different story at St. Andrews as Tiger fired an opening round 6 over par. He couldn’t get shots to drop and fans began to realize we could be seeing the end of an incredible legacy. Tiger would not make the cut into weekend as he shot 1-over on Friday and 7-over for the tournament.
The fans understood this and gave him a rousing ovation as he walked up the 18th hole on Friday:
Tiger was overcome with emotion as fans and players paid their respect to arguably the greatest golfer of all-time.
Tiger also understood the moment but chose not to pause on Swilcan Bridge on the 18th. Players at the end of their careers will pause on that bridge to signify their playing days were over. Though he chose not to stand on the bridge, Tiger conceded the reality that he too is nearing the end:
No matter what happens from here on out I can truly say it has been a joy to watch Tiger Woods play the game of golf. At the peak of his powers he dominated the game in a way that may never be seen again.
15 Major Championships. 82 Career PGA Tour victories. 199 Top 10 finishes in 370 tournaments played. Tiger Woods is simply the gold standard.
Thank you, Tiger.
WWE Musings
WWE continued making headlines as the Vince McMahon scandal has gotten worse. The Wall Street Journal unearthed more reports of payouts by Vince McMahon for allegations of sexual misconduct . Even though these reports have uncovered more of the behind the scenes madness by McMahon he continues to run the day to day operations of WWE.
Vince McMahon is a predator. The fact he is still in control of the day to day operations speaks to Vince’s arrogance and privilege. As the allegations mount he continues to be even more defiant. One has to wonder if anyone will have a backbone and tell him to just disappear until this investigation ends.
While news of the allegations continue to dominate the wrestling world both Sasha Banks and Naomi also continue to make news. Sasha Banks will be appear at C2E2 in Chicago as… Mercedes Varnado. That’s right – Sasha is using her government name for non-WWE events. She has not accepted any wrestling events for the rest of 2022. Eyebrows were raised when news of Varnado’s asking price for appearing at events. I always get a chuckle out of people ‘pocket watching’. I’m all for Sasha getting all the bags. Whatever she’s charging it’s probably not enough. All of these revelations have all but guaranteed that she is no longer with WWE.
Naomi has also raised some eyebrows as she has slowly returned to social media in recent weeks. On one of her most recent social media posts she posted the following that would seem to indicate she was also done with WWE:
The duo appear to be living their best lives outside of WWE and appear to show no signs of coming back. I find it humorous their reasons for leaving have been proven correct since WWE had done absolutely nothing with the women’s tag team titles since their departure. In fact, WWE hasn’t even mentioned them since late May. It all speaks to a company that seems to be lost in more ways than one.
Final Thoughts
* I’m a fan of a good trolling. Enter Hunter Pence. The former SF Giants right fielder trolled the crowd at Dodger Stadium during the MLB Celebrity Softball Game during All-Star Weekend:
* Only 9 days left until Bears open Training Camp. I’m expecting nothing from the Bears this year. I’m just happy that football is almost back.
* The NBA Summer League concludes this afternoon and for the 1st time ever the winning team will receive championship rings. Really, fam?!?!
