The Kings of The East
The Chicago Bulls have been a joy to watch all season. Despite going through a COVID outbreak that had as many as 10 players and their head coach out for some time, the Bulls have continued to roll. After last night’s 120-119 win over the Wizards, the Bulls now own the best record in the Eastern Conference. Leading the way is DeMar DeRozan is who is playing at an MVP level right now. DeRozan is averaging 26.8ppg, 5.1rpg and 4.6apg while shooting 49.5% from the field and 37.5% from 3. DeRozan has been unreal all season and used the last 2 games to take the hearts of the Pacers & Wizards at the buzzer in a 24 hour span:
What happens for the rest of the season is unknown but the Bulls will be a factor. They are clearly a contender in the East and can find themselves in the Eastern Conference Finals if things shake out just right. With DeRozan, Zach Lavine, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso leading the way, the Bulls are going to be fun to watch for some time to come.
WWE Day 1 Review
The unofficial start of WrestleMania season began last night in Atlanta with Day 1. Overall I thought it was a decent to good “premium live event”. The opening match between The Usos & The New Day was absolute fire. The chemistry and psychology between the teams was great and the crowd really ate it up. The Usos using the 3-D finisher to beat The New Day was a nice touch. I wish more emphasis would be put on tag team wrestling because when it is and teams are allowed to tell a story it can be really dynamic. One thing I thought was interesting was The Usos still wore the Bloodline t-shirt with Heyman on it. Heyman was fired by Reigns 2 weeks ago yet that particular t-shirt was used by The Usos. The other tag team match of RK-Bro vs. The Street Profits was also a very good match. The Street Profits had a bit more of an edge to them that makes me wonder if they’ll doing a heel turn.
The RAW women’s title match between Becky Lynch & Liv Morgan was also compelling if not always crisp. Liv was up to the challenge and played her part of the underdog well. The outcome was never really in doubt. It clearly looked as though the finish was botched a little. As Liv tried to hit her finisher, Becky countered and tried to her Man Slam finisher but didn’t get Liv all the way up. When Becky went for the pin it looked as though she tried to use the ropes but couldn’t because neither Lynch or Liv were in the right spot. That said they still told a good story.
The other matches offered little in terms of excitement but the feuds will carry on past Day 1. Drew McIntyre suffered a post-match, backstage beatdown by Baron Corbin & Madcap Moss. Meanwhile, Edge outlasted The Miz with some help from Beth Phoenix. Phoenix made the save to keep Maryse from interfering in the match. This is clearly setting up a mixed tag team match.
The highlight of the night was the Fatal 5-Way for the WWE Championship. Big E came in at a huge disadvantage going up against Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Bobby Lashley and the Beast Brock Lesnar. Lesnar was added when his match with Roman Reigns was cancelled due to Reigns testing positive for COVID. This match had hard hitting, brutality and great athleticism from all the competitors. Brock Lesnar picking up the win over Big E now puts WWE in another bind. Do they give up the story between Reigns, Lesnar and Paul Heyman? The match last night teased confrontations between Lesnar and Lashley. Do they begin a program? Where does this leave Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens & Big E? And who challenges Reigns now?
ESPN’s Jonathan Hood shared his thoughts on the WWE Championship match as well:
