RIP to The Marvelous One…

The boxing world lost an icon and arguably the greatest middleweight boxer of all-time on Saturday as Marvelous Marvin Hagler passed away at 66. During his illustrious career Hagler amassed a 62-3-2 record while holding the WBA, WBC, Ring & IBF Middleweight titles.

For me personally Hagler was my favorite boxer growing up as a kid. I would watch boxing matches with my father and whenever Hagler was fighting we would watch.

Rest in honor, Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Here is Hagler’s most well known fight with Thomas “The Hit Man” Hearns:

The Good, Bad & Ugly of WWE

WWE is getting closer & closer to WrestleMania and Vince McMahon’s traveling circus appears to be spinning its wheels. Here’s the good, bad & ugly for WWE right now:

WWE has a red hot storyline with Roman Reigns, Edge & Daniel Bryan.
  • The Good: WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns continues to be the best thing going right now. His feud with both Edge and Daniel Bryan has been appointment television. Big E. has also been great as he has found his groove as the Intercontinental Champion. Also finding his groove, and his voice, is Apollo Crews. Crews has settled into his role as a heel and now for the first time in his career has some sort of character development. Over on RAW, the era of the Almighty has begun as Bobby Lashley is now the WWE Champion after dominating The Miz(who cashed in his MITB briefcase to beat Drew McIntyre at Elimination Chamber). Lashley now has the opportunity to have a deep, dominant run with the title and add even more legitimacy to The Hurt Business.
  • The Bad: The Women’s division continues to be a mess. What should be a no-brainer main event showdown between Smackdown Women’s champion Sasha Banks & 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair has devolved into a mess. Instead of booking a simple feud between two ultra-confident, strong women WWE out thought themselves and inserted Carmella’s former sommelier Reginald into the mix. The women’s tag division is also a mess thanks to WWE refusing to build up the division. Worse yet the titles are held by a tandem(Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler) that should be singles wrestlers. Baszler has been wasted since debuting on RAW. Her role was ready made as a dominant, monster heel coming out of NXT. The worst of it all is the treatment of RAW Women’s champion Asuka. Since he was handed the title from a then pregnant Becky Lynch, Asuka has played the side character in every storyline she’s been in.
  • The Ugly: Outside of Reigns vs. Edge and Banks vs. Belair nothing else seems to be set for WrestleMania and it’s only 27 days away. According to reports, WWE chairman Vince McMahon scrapped the original plans for The Show of Shows. Whether that’s true or not is still up in the air but what is known is that the ship is rudderless. How do we know this? This past RAW spent 3, count them, 3 segments on Shane McMahon & Braun Strowman. That is a match that absolutely NO ONE wants to see. Also, several wrestlers are furious they’re being left in catering. One in particular, Andrade, has asked for his release(it was denied). It’s definitely head-scratching when you have this amount of talent and Creative feels the best option for talented workers like Andrade, Keith Lee, Aleistar Black and others is to let them stew in catering. Worse yet instead of granting releases, WWE is forcing these talents(who by the way are independent contractors) to adhere to their contracts rather than letting them work elsewhere. It’s another case of WWE having their corporate deals, their money and zero f***s to give.

Final Thoughts

  • The field of 68 is set for the NCAA Tournament with Gonzaga, Baylor, Illinois & Michigan locking up #1 seeds. Due to COVID all of the games will be played in the state of Indiana at various locations. The Final Four will be in Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis. Who do you have getting to the Final Four this year… because I haven’t a clue.
  • The Saints’ Drew Brees has announced his retirement from the NFL. The sure fire Hall of Famer spent 20 years in the NFL, 15 of them with the Saints. He’s the all-time leader in passing yards & passing completions and 2nd to Tom Brady in touchdowns. His biggest accomplishment will always be leading the 2009 Saints to a Super Bowl victory over Peyton Manning’s Colts. Congrats on a helluva career, Drew!!
  • The Bears have exercised the franchise tag on their top WR, Allen Robinson. Robinson didn’t take too kindly to this news as he was seeking a new contract. There are rumors that Robinson won’t sign the franchise tag and possibly hold out. Couple that with the facts don’t have any cap space and this spells for a bumpy offseason for the beloved.
  • As we inch closer to the start of the baseball season I’m very excited about my White Sox’s chances of hoisting a World Series title at season’s end. Sox SS Tim Anderson took it a step further back on February 26th and said this:

Play ball….
