A Beloved Mess
The Bears dropped their 2nd straight game today at home to the Saints 26-23. The Bears had a chance to take sole possession of 1st place in the NFC North as the Packers lost in shocking fashion to the Vikings but once again the offense’s inconsistencies cost them the ballgame. Their 1st drive of the game was a 13 play drive that stalled and ended in a FG. They had another drive in the 2nd quarter that could have put them up 17-3 but again had to settle for a FG. The Saints would get a TD before the end of the 1st half to cut the Bears lead to 3 and things seemed to go downhill at that point. The Saints rattled off 20 straight points to take a 10-point lead with 9:30 minutes left in the game.
To the Bears credit they were able to overcome that deficit to force overtime but once again the offense could not sustain drives and forced their defense to play the role of Superman yet again. The defense played well enough to win but when your offense can’t put scoring drives on the board it makes it tough on any defense.
I think the Bears are long past the point of seriously looking at the play calling, the coaching, the time management and QB play.
Keep in mind they still have the Titans and Packers to play in the next 4 weeks. A 6-5 record is a very real possibility and the way the Vikings’ Dalvin Cook is running the ball right now the Bears could end up 5-6.
The bottom line is the Bears have been exposed now for back to back weeks now. It’s going to be tough for them to secure a playoff spot going the rest of the way.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly of WWE
The Good: The Hell In A Cell PPV produced 3 really good matches all with good storytelling. Randy Orton captured his 14th WWE championship by outlasting Drew McIntyre inside the dreaded cell. Sasha Banks made good on her promise of revenge against her former best friend Bayley and won the SmackDown Women’s title in what was the best match of the night. While Sasha & Bayley had the best match, Roman Reigns & Jey Uso produced the best storytelling of the night as their feud for the soul of the Anoa’i Family. Roman getting Jey to quit by putting Jey’s real life brother(and Roman’s real life cousin) Jimmy Uso in a guillotine submission move was the chef’s kiss. Jey Uso now must succumb to Roman’s rules, which he did this past Friday by brutalizing Daniel Bryan and completing his heel turn.
The Bad: Retribution is on the verge of becoming a joke stable if they haven’t already. On top of seemingly coming out on the losing end time & time again against The Hurt Business, WWE creative decided to sacrifice them during a recent episode of RAW to the altar of The Fiend, Bray Wyatt.
Equally bad is WWE’s stubbornness about pushing Lars Sullivan. He was featured on this past Friday’s SmackDown in a sit-down interview with Corey Graves. It was awkward at best and downright cringe inducing at its worst:
Why WWE continues to push Sullivan when it’s clear the WWE Universe wants no parts of him on their TV screens is beyond me.
The Ugly: The Mysterio saga went from strange to downright stomach churning this past Friday as Alyah Mysterio, all of 19 years old, declared her love for Buddy Murphy(who is 32) much to the chagrin of her father Rey & brother Dominik. Alyah sealed her declaration of love by kissing Murphy in the middle of the ring. WWE has a long, sad history of bad love stories used in wrestling angles and this is no different. Let’s get the age difference out of the way – the storyline of the Mysterios is just nauseating television right now.
Final Thoughts
- This is one of the greatest uppercut knock outs you will ever see in boxing:
- Congratulations to the L.A. Dodgers for winning the World Series against a game Tampa Bay Rays team. What was head scratching was the fact Dodgers’ 3rd Basemen Justin Turner was pulled from the game due to testing positive for COVID-19. The game was not stopped nor was it revealed that Turner had tested positive until after Game 6 ended. Even after all of that, Turner was allowed to come back on the field to celebrate the World Series trophy presentation… without wearing a mask.
- Anyone paying attention to college football… because I’m not nor do I have any intention to do so.
