The New Normal?
The COVID-19 epidemic was officially declared a pandemic this week by The WHO(World
Health Organization). In the United States, all major sports leagues suspended their seasons indefinitely. A number of states have closed all public & private schools for at least 2 weeks to a month to help further the spread. Most colleges & universities have canceled in-person classes and have gone to online courses. The current occupant of the White House declared a National Emergency.
Despite the government’s response(which was late and unprepared), people have turned to hysteria. Most grocery stores have been cleaned out of food, water and paper products. Hospitals are having masks, hand sanitizers and paper products stolen. People are flooding emergency departments and critical care units to be tested when they aren’t showing the symptoms.
While people should be vigilant in responding to this crisis, people should also be prudent and smart. My fears about people being scared & ignorant have come true. The media continues to fan the flames instead of serving as a mechanism of calmness. This can’t be the new normal.
Please… educate yourself. Go to https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html to get the latest information and please stay safe.
The Show Goes On?
While just about every major sports league has either suspended or cancelled their season, sports entertainment conglomerate WWE has not made any plans to cancel their headlining PPV, WrestleMania. It is still scheduled for April 5, 2019 in Tampa, FL. WWE released a statement regarding COVID-19 and their plans to forge ahead. This is just the latest example of WWE Vince McMahon looking at the bottom line instead of doing what is right. Remember… this is the same McMahon that allowed a PPV to continue after a wrestler accidentally fell to his death.
Vince needs to do the right thing and heed the advice of medical professionals. He should also keep his talent, that he doesn’t provide healthcare benefits for, in mind when dealing with this.
The show may go on… but it needs to be in an empty arena.
Final Thoughts
- Twitter caught fire this morning(and by this morning I mean 3 AM) when it was discovered that President Obama’s official twitter account followed an adult actress. Insert your jokes here….
- The NCAA cancelled March Madness. Hey… at least I won’t lose money on a bracket that was probably going to be busted on Day 1.
- Please check in on the elderly. Now more than ever they need our love and support.
- Sunday night’s Democratic Debate between Bernie Sanders & Joe Biden should be interesting if for nothing else we’ll find out if both men will be able to stay up past their bedtime.
