COVID-19 is the latest virus to cause widespread panic.

It seems every few years there is some sort of virus that grips the masses and causes unneeded panic.  Today that virus is COVID-19, otherwise known as the Coronavirus.  Thanks to the media’s hyper coverage this virus has caused widespread panic.  People are scared and worse yet — uninformed.  Here in the U.S., there are currently 164 cases and 11 deaths stemming from COVID-19 according to the CDC(Center for Disease Control).  Conversely, this year’s flu season has produced 280,000 cases & 16,000 deaths according to the CDC .

The panic regarding COVID-19 is now bordering on insane levels.  People here in the U.S. are buying out hand sanitizers(but not soap though), toilet paper and water in stores.  People are literally stealing masks from hospitals(I know this because I work at a major hospital and it’s happening there).  People are buying N-95 masks in bulk when it’s the hospitals and other medical facilities that need them to care for sick patients.  The NBA is even proposing to play games in empty stadiums.

The media has played a monumental role in stoking fears regarding COVID-19.  Americans by & large do not research issues.  We are fed whatever is given to us. We’ve been conditioned to believe what we read in newspapers and see on the “news” shows.   We are mindless, fearful sheep. What’s worse is our current government is not prepared to properly deal with this virus.  We have become the movie Idiocracy.  We know more about Tik Tok, Instagram and SnapChat than we do about simple procedures to prevent COVID-19.

Please go to the CDC and get informed about COVID-19.  Please don’t freak out.  You’re only making it harder for healthcare professionals who deal with these type of things everyday.  It’s not the end of the world.  Not even close.  This too shall pass…

Bernie Bros vs. Biden Buddies

Super Tuesday was supposed to be the coronation of Bernie Sanders to the Democratic nomination for President but then a funny thing happened — voters threw a curve ball and chose Joe Biden.  Biden won 10 of the 13 states at stake and now finds himself the front runner.  Now it’s down to Sanders & Biden and yet the Democratic Party is as fractured as ever.  Supporters of both candidates are throwing Molotov cocktails at each other and ever increasing the odds that the current occupant of the White House will remain in office for another four years.

What I am most annoyed with is the level of vitriol voters are leveling at each other.  The #1 objective is to beat Donald Trump in November.  The antics of some of these supporters(particularly Sanders’ supporters) are turning people off to supporting him(and the same goes for Biden).

It can’t be all or nothing for anyone you support because if that’s your mindset then you might as well gift-wrap the election to Agent Orange.  It’s time for the Bernie Bros & Biden Buddies to stop this childish rhetoric and understand the bigger picture — getting Trump out.

Some Final Thoughts

  • The NCAA Tournament is approaching and I have watched very little basketball this year.  That won’t stop me from filling out a bracket.
  • Any reason why I should watch WWE’s Elimination Chamber tonight? No? Alrighty then…
  • Black Delegation… we have to stop this madness.  For the final time – SUGAR DOES NOT GO ON GRITS.
  • Speaking of the Black Delegation, I think we need to set some rules/parameters regarding who gets invited to the cookout.  We can’t be handing these invites out like Oprah giveaways.  Who is the deciding committee? Does this require a 3/4 majority vote? Please advise.
  • Note to TV anchors… pausing before the top story is fundamental.
