Oh Save Us From Our Mess…
Bette Midler caused a brief Twitter storm this past week when she challenged Beyonce’s 133 million Instagram followers a.k.a. The Beyhive to mobilize to defeat Agent Orange in 2020. While the tweet was meant to be encouraging, it also came across as tone deaf, misinformed and condescending. Here is the tweet in question:
There are a few things wrong with this tweet. For starters, not all of Beyonce’s 133 million followers are from the US The tweet also seems to suggest that Beyonce’s IG followers aren’t engaged in the political process. This is also false. During the 2016 Election, Beyonce & Jay-Z put on a number of concerts where they were mobilizing people to register to vote(both Knowles & Carter supported Hillary Clinton in 2016). The most troubling aspect of this is that most of Beyonce’s most ardent supporters in the US are black women. In 2016, 94% of black women voted for Hillary Clinton.
I also noticed the same challenge wasn’t issued to fans of Taylor Swift & Ariana Grande. This is where the real challenge should be issued given the fact that 53% of white women voted for Donald Trump in 2016. Plenty of evangelical christians like Taylor Swift and 77% of evangelicals voted for the Dictator in Chief.
Maybe it’s time Midler and others like her hold a mirror up to their family members, friends & associates and issue the challenge to mobilize and stop asking black women to fix their messes.
Democrats, You Have A Problem
While all the talk in political circles focuses on the President’s poll numbers & job approval rating, the Democrats are facing a huge problem themselves. They don’t have a star capable of taking out Donald Trump. To take it even further — they don’t have a cohesive message that can energize their fractured bases. Trump knows what he has and he’s doing whatever it takes to keep his sheep in line. Democrats? They’ve got too many people to try to satisfy. They have to worry about black women, black issues regarding racism & white supremacy, Latinos and immigration, the LGBTQ community and the list goes on & on. The biggest thing they have to worry about is not looking to appear like they want to take the country over the cliff of socialism. They’ve got a little over a year to get their sh*t together or face the prospect of Agent Orange in the White House for another 4 years(spoiler – Trump is going to win again).
The Celebrity Dictator In Chief
Remember in 2015 when then candidate Trump famously said he could shoot someone in the middle of Central Park & his poll numbers wouldn’t go down? Remember that? He has been proven correct. Trump’s mafia-style tactics of occupying the presidency literally has everyone in politics afraid to speak out against him. He has used to presidency to profit his businesses, he has obstructed justice and he has lied so much that he even he can’t keep up with them all. He has done the political version of shooting someone in Central Park and yet all we hear are… crickets.
LaVar Ball Is Trash
Darren Rovell posted a clip of LaVar Ball’s failed Facebook Watch reality show, Ball In The Family. This particular part of the episode sees LaVar and his oldest son Lonzo discussing the future of their shoe company, Big Baller Brand. Here’s the clip:
With the Big Baller Brand on the ropes, Lonzo Ball asked LaVar, with the “Ball In The Family” camera crew rolling, if they should change the name. The answer was predictable pic.twitter.com/jzkOvX1vrZ

I’ve felt from Day 1 that LaVar’s approach to managing his sons’ careers were trash but what was said in the clip is truly repugnant. These are not things a father should say to his son. LaVar acts like he’s the one who made Lonzo. No sir, Lonzo made himself. Whether or not you decided to run your mouth Lonzo would have made it to the NBA. LaVar is nothing more than a poor excuse for a father & manager. You uplift. You encourage. You don’t say without me you would be just a regular ball player & call your son “damaged goods”. This is the epitome of ain’t sh*t parenting.
Some Final Thoughts
- Candace Owens was asked(by Republicans) to speak before the US House on the issue of White Supremacy. In typical fashion, Owens said that blacks aren’t under threat from white supremacists. I sure hope that money helps you sleep at night Candace. I would ask about your soul but I know you put that up for sale a LONG time ago.
- Antonio Brown was cut by the New England Patriots yesterday. Yes, the same Patriots team that caught on SpyGate and DeflateGate cut Brown. That pretty much lets you know how out of pocket he is. I hope he gets help.
- 2 games into the NFL season and my Bears have me concerned. Their offense, and their franchise QB, looks legitimately shaky.
- I like Apple products… but I’m too damn old(and have too much of a life)to be standing in line for hours on end just to get their latest iPhone. I’ll see you when I see you Apple.
- Travel is the best therapy. Do it often.
