The Road to WrestleMania begins with tonight’s Royal Rumble PPV. This event will make history as for the 1st time ever there will be a 30-woman Battle Royal match.
Here’s a look at the card and who I’m picking to win:
Kalisto, Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik vs. TJP, Jack Gallagher & Drew Gulak (Kickoff Show) – This match was thrown together after Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore was charged with rape & then released by WWE. The CW division has been a jumbled mess for quite some time. The action will be nice but no one will really care until a new champion is crowned.
Who will win: Gallagher, TJP & Gulak
Bobby Roode U.S. Title Open Challenge(Kickoff Show) – The Glorious One won the US Title by knocking off Jindet Mahal in SD Live this past Tuesday which sets up his Open Challenge angle. Considering Mahal is not scheduled to be in the Rumble expect him to answer the call. Also not in the Rumble – Dolph Ziggler. I predict this will be a triple threat Open Challenge.
Who will win: Roode… but expect his program with both Ziggler & Mahal chasing the title to continue.
Gallows & Anderson vs. The Revival(Kickoff Show) – These two teams faced off on RAW 25 and it was an embarrassing moment for the Top Guys. They sought to interrupt a moment between DX, The Kliq & Balor Club and then proceeded to be beaten in a match in 2 minutes & take finishers from the aging legends.
Who will win: The Revival. They are arguably the best tag team not named The Usos & they need their credibility restored.
The Usos vs. Benjamin & Gable(SD Tag Team Championship 2 out of 3 Falls) – This rivalry has been brewing for a while which included some twin magic by the Usos & the belief that B&G pinned the right guy for the title. These teams have built on animosity & good chemistry so tonight’s match could steal the show.
Who will win: Benjamin & Gable. The time is now for the heels to claim what they believe is theirs. Also, a vengeful Usos team will be fun to watch.
Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan vs. The Bar(RAW Tag Team Chanpionship) – Seth Rollins has played the role of reluctant mentor to Jason Jordan to perfection. With each week Jordan becomes more arrogant & entitled. Meanwhile Sheamus & Cesaro have been seething since losing the titles to Rollins & Jordan & have vowed for payback.
Who will win: The Bar. Jordan will end up costing his team the tag titles which will facilitate his full on heel turn.
Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman vs. Kane(Universal Championship) – This will be another test of Lesnar’s championship mettle when he battles Kane & The Monster Among Men in a triple threat match that honestly not many people are interested in.
Who will win: Brock Lesnar. This will be a hard hitting affair that will be used as a vehicle to get Lesnar to his expected WrestleMania match vs. Roman Reigns. It’s somewhat maddening though because Strowman should be champion.
AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn(WWE Championship Handicapped Match) – Owens & Zayn have been a thorn in AJ’s side for weeks since he beat Jinder Mahal for the title. Add in the distraction of the simmering feud between SD GM Daniel Bryan & Commissioner Shane McMahon and you have a match that could go a number of ways.
Who will win: AJ Styles. The champion will find a way to win and the simmering feud between Bryan & McMahon will explode.
Women’s Royal Rumble Match – For the 1st time ever women will be competing in this match to determine a title shot at either Alexa Bliss(RAW Champion) or Charottle(SD Champion). Expect surprise entries from the likes of Lita, Trish Stratus, Beth Phoenix and even Stephanie McMahon. Yes… the Billionaire Princess will be one of the surprise entrants.
Final Four Contenders: Asuka, Sasha Banks, Bayley & Nia Jax.
Who will win: Asuka. Her undefeated streak will remain intact & set up a showdown with Alexa Bliss for the tile. Also expect Bayley & Banks to begin a feud with a long awaited heel turn by Banks.
Men’s Royal Rumble Match – This Match will feature some big names(John Cena & Randy Orton) and also some surprises(Undertaker perhaps?). Like the ladies, the winner will get a shot at either the Universal or WWE title. The winner will also headline WrestleMania.
Final Four Contenders: Shinsuke Nakamura, The Miz, Roman Reigns & Randy Orton
Who will win: Shinsuke Nakamura. This is my pick… and I’m saying this knowing full well that WWE will let Reigns win to set up his match with Brock Lesnar.
